Official website for the Colombian film Mamá, tómate la sopa directed by Mario Ribero Ferreira (television series Yo soy Betty la fea) to be released in Colombia on December 25th. The film stars Paola Turbay (television series True Blood, Californication, Cane) and was awarded Colombian Film Development Fund grants in 2006 (Screenplay Development), in 2008 (Feature Production) and in 2009 (Film Market Feature Participation) as well as an Ibermedia creative production seminar grant and Spain’s Carolina Foundation Award. The film tells the story of Vicente, a dowdy, balding 40-something man still living comfortably at home with his mother, Berta. He has nothing better to do than hang out with his friends and spends his days inventing fantasies business schemes. Until the arrival of Cristina, the new owner of a neighborhood salon, who throws Vicente’s life into turmoil. In a flash, she becomes what he most longs for and together they set off on a sentimental journey and a business venture that sparks his mother’s fury. A revolutionary hair loss treatment invented by the hairdresser awakens the love and entrepreneurial spirit of this man incapable of securing his own independence.

The film, written and produced by Dago García, is a comedy that mixes fiction with romance to tell the story of Gerardo, a soap opera writer, who seeing his own successful show fall in the ratings due to the overwhelming success of the competition on a rival channel, starts to feel pressure from his own channel’s executives, the show’s actors and members of the viewing public. And so Olarte is dragged into a race against the clock to come up with a needed twist to his story that will improve the show’s rating. But by pulling his story’s secret strings, and overcome by confusion, he wakes one day to find himself inside his own soap opera, creating the wildest situations imaginable out of both fantasy and reality, taking the film out of the real world.

Teaser for the psychological thriller El Páramo (The Squad), a film by Rhayuela Cine directed by Jaime Osorio Márquez scheduled to premiere in Colombian theaters on October 6, 2011. The advance showings of this Colombian film have met with overwhelming success – not only on the film’s official YouTube channel, which logged 12,296 hits in the first two weeks, but also totaled 300,000 spectatores during Latin America’s largest free music festival Rock al Parque where the film opened three nights in a row for 2011’s headliners including Overkill and the Dead Kennedys from the US, Buraka Som Sistema (Portugal) and La Pestilencia (Colombia).
