MIDBO Announces its Selection for 2018

The 20th edition of the International Documentary Encounter (MIDBO) in Bogotá has announced the films that have been selected for this event, held October 3 - 10

The 20th International Documentary Encounter, organized by the Corporación Colombiana de Documentalistas (ALADOS), is an opportuity to experience how documentaries have evolved over the past 20 years. With this objective in mind, this year's agenda features national and international films, a showing of Documental Expandido section, and is holding the Encuentro Internacional Pensar lo Real – which includes conferences and presentations by guest filmmakers, researchers and work groups presenting on their advances.

MIDBO’s selection was led by a committee of national and international curators. Submissions from over 200 works came from more than 20 countries to participate in the three categories included this year. The films selected belong to countries from Spain, Chile, Colombia, Germany, Canada, Uruguay, France, Brazil, the United States, Mexico, Ecuador and Cuba. Since it began, the MIDBO has screened about 2,000 films from 70 countries. Approximately 80,000 people have attended its screenings and a large number of national and international artists have had the opportunity to meet with the public in its academic events and exhibitions.

Participating in this year's National Selection, which features recent productions of Colombian authors residing in and outside the country include: Señorita María, la falda de la montaña by Rubén MendozaInterior by Camila Rodríguez Triana; Expedición marimba by Luis Eduardo Martínez; Salsa, aguanta y Rock’n Roll, Superlitio 20 años by Elkin Fabián Hernández; 72584/Ultrágeno by Simón Hernández and Liliana Andrade; Esferódromo by Nicolás Consuegra; Por qué cantan las aves by Adrián Villa; La tía rica by Germán Ramírez; Pasó by Jorge Gallarto and Duvan Duque; Ruta 60 by Wilson Arango; Memorias de Guamoco, minería y conflicto armado by Daniel Ifanger and Mario Niño; La magia terminó by Luis Galvis; El alguacil by Samuel Moreno; La faena de los centauros by Laura Riaño and David Camacho; La vaca by Juan Jiménez; Encantos, la magia del páramo by Lida Prada; Fosfeno by David Gómez; Fu by María Rojas and Andrés Jurado; and Ya existía en mi memoria by Frank Rodríguez.
 
In the international category, Other Perspectives, are: Nocturno by Álvaro Pulpeiro; Tierra sola by Tiziana Panizza; Urwalder by Nina Bendzko; El señor Liberto y los pequeños placeres by Ana Serret; El deambular by un vidente by Aida Maigre; Locura al aire by Alicia Cano and Leticia Cuba; Ouzoum by Denis Cointe; Boca de fogo by Luciana Pérez; Galinhas no Porto by Caioz and Luís Henrique Leal; Detroit’s Rivera by Julio Ramos; Donde se quedan las cosas by Daniela Silva and El silencio es un cuerpo que cae by Agustina Comedi.

In the Emerging Perspectives section, representing Colombia are: Liliana by Paula Cárdenas; El camino del viento by Santiago Montenegro; El playón by Jeferson Romero; El último comandante de los quintines by Eliseth Peña; Entonces, existí by Luisa Charry; Usted no es mujer by Sebastián Barreto; La virgen de las candelas by Juan Felipe Olave; Leer la mano by Natalia Martínez; Los Gonzalos by Nicole Márquez and Leonardo Acevedo; Marca registrada by Manuel Vásquez; Margarita by Sigifredo Escobar; Na, misak by Luis Tróchez and Raíces by Paula Muñoz.

Other Latin American works that have been selected include: Seis grados de inspiración by Manuel Rodarte; Love by Ignacio Oyuela; Catch, el ocaso de los ídolos by Felipe Bozzani; Claudia tocada por la Luna by Francisco Aguilar; De todo vivimos by Itrofil l Mongen; El hombre que siempre hizo su parte by Orisel Castro and York Neudel; El monte by Claudia Claremi; Halmoni by Daniel Kim; Dejar la piel by Israel Aumada; Lecciones de Tai chi by Diego Rodríguez; Lache by Jean Costa and Teteras de Nacho by Paoli and Dora Schoj.
