1. EVOLUTION OF COLOMBIAN FILM MARKET
- In 2011 film attendance grew by 13%. This growth, however, was less than in the previous two years in
which film attendance increased by 25%.
- The number of spectators has grown by 88% since 2006.
- Attendance index (number of spectators per population) for Colombian films in 2011 grew by 12.16% over the previous year
- Attendance index has risen consistently since 2005
- Box office figures were up in 2011 by 9.7% and reached an all-time high of 294 billion Colombian pesos.
- At the end of the 1990s, box office figures averaged 125.8 billion Colombian pesos.
- In recent years, positive market results for Colombian films were reflected in box office figures, increasing by 87% over the past 6 years from 157 billion pesos to nearly 294 billion pesos in 2011 (constant prices based on 2011).
- An average of 178 films released annually between 2000 and 2005 (3.4 films weekly)
- In the past 5 years, an average of 206 films were released (approximately 4 films weekly)
- Please note that the number of screens in the country increased, as did the variety of releases
