2. Evolution of Colombian Film Industry

  • Admissions at Colombian films in 2015 grew by 56.07% (1,237,830) compared to 2014 (2,207,435). Admissions at the 36 films released broke down as follows: six had more than 100,000 admissions; twelve had between 10,000 and 100,000; sixteen had between 1,000 and 10,000 admissions; and finally, two had fewer than 1,000 admissions.

  • Colombian film accounted for 10.65% of the total of films shown in national cinemas in 2015.

  • Admissions at Colombian films take place in the context of a growing number of Colombian and foreign films.

  • Ticket prices in Colombia have remained over 8,000 pesos in recent years. It can be seen that real ticket prices in Colombia have fallen by 8.16% since 2012.

  • The average price in dollars of movie tickets in Colombia, at the December exchange rate and adjusted for inflation to the December CPI, remains above three dollars.

  • 3D movies still top the list of movie theater admissions in Colombia.

  • Box office refers only to gross per film; admissions, on the other hand, refers to the number of tickets sold. Therefore, although there is some correlation between the two variables or metrics, they may fluctuate from film to film, primarily due to the marginal costs in the ticket price and the format in which each film is screened.

  • The film Uno al año no hace daño was released on December 25, 2014, but the number of admissions is shown for the first months of 2015.
