Born on December 29, 1986, in Bogota, Claudio Cataño is an actor, director, and screenwriter, and the grandson of urban poet Mario Rivero. He studied dramatic arts at the Rubén Di Petro School and has worked across theater, television, and film.
His career in the audiovisual field began when he landed one of his first leading roles in the television series La sucursal del cielo (Heaven's Branch) in 2008. The following year, he was invited to take part in Fox Telecolombia's series Tiempo final (Final Time) and in the Colombian telenovela Bermúdez, produced by Caracol Television. In 2010, he continued working in series such as Rosario Tijeras, produced by Teleset, and A mano limpia (With Bare Hands), produced by RCN Television, a role that earned him a nomination for Best Leading Actor at the 2011 TV y Novelas Awards. Since then, he has appeared in numerous other telenovelas and series, including 5 viudas sueltas (Five Widows on the Loose, 2013), Comando élite (2013), Tiro de gracia (Shot of Grace, 2014), La viuda negra II (The Black Widow II, 2015), 2091 (2016), María Magdalena (2018), Mil colmillos (A Thousand Fangs, 2019), La nieta elegida (The Chosen Granddaughter, 2021), Cochina envidia (Filthy Envy, 2021), Las Villamizar (2021), and Cien años de soledad (One Hundred Years of Solitude, 2023-2025 for Netflix.
In film, he has appeared in Tiempo muerto (Time Sweep, 2015), directed by Víctor Postiglione; Nadie sabe para quién trabaja (Nobody Knows Who They Work For), directed by Harold Trompetero (2017); Aurora (2023), directed by José Luis Arzuaga; Inventario (Inventory), directed by Mauricio Cataño Panesso (2024); Estimados señores (Dear Gentlemen), directed by Patricia Castañeda (2024); and Horizonte (Horizon, 2025), directed by César Augusto Acevedo.
His work as a director began with the short films Canalst and APT101, both made in 2012, where he brings together his passion for anime, his poetic sensibility, and countless cinematic references that paved the way for his path as a filmmaker. With APT101, he chose to develop a trilogy that continues with El secreto (The Secret) and concludes with El palo de golf (The Golf Club), short films based on stories written by his partner and the producer of his first feature film, Patricia Castañeda. Completed in 2013, El secreto was directed by Patricia Castañeda while Claudio took on the leading role.
He later transitioned to feature-length filmmaking as the director of Canal CT (2014), Moria (2016), and Virginia Casta (2017), a screen adaptation of the novel of the same name, winner of the Latino Book Award in New York in 2011.
In 2014, he took part in Teatro Nacional de Colombia's season with the theater play La forma de las cosas (The Shape of Things). He also performed in La dama de negro (The Woman in Black), directed by Rafael Perrín.
