Juan Pablo Urrego
Juan Pablo Urrego, born in Medellín in 1986, began his theater training at the Instituto Superior de Artes (ISA) in Havana, Cuba. He then moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina, to further specialize in Performing Arts and launched his career in theater. In 2011, he returned to Colombia to continue developing his acting career, which has since earned both national and international recognition in film and television. In 2022, he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Series at the Produ Awards for his role in Primate. His film career took off with Amigo de Nadie (Friend of No One), directed by Luis Alberto Restrepo.
In 2024, Urrego stars in Isla Perdida (The Island) alongside American actor Matt Dillon and Spanish actress Aida Folch. This film, produced by Caracol Televisión and Fernando Trueba Producciones and directed by the Spanish filmmaker, marks his second collaboration with Trueba after El Olvido que Seremos (Forgotten We’ll Be), which won five Platino Awards and the Goya for Best Ibero-American Film.
Urrego also appears in both seasons of Manes (Bros) alongside Laura Londoño, Sebastián Carvajal, Diego Cadavid, Natalia Jerez, Simón Elías, Brian Moreno, Variel Sánchez, Natalia Ramírez, and Laura Archbold. Based on the 1996 TV series Hombres (Men) by Mónica Agudelo, this comedy-drama, created by RCN Studios for Prime Video, blends romance with humor.
In 2023, Urrego was part of the cast of Los Iniciados (The Initiates), directed by Juan Felipe Orozco, a film available on Prime Video. In 2021, he starred in Memoria (Memory), directed by award-winning Thai filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul, which won the Jury Prize at Cannes. While Urrego has built a remarkable film career, he first gained public recognition for his role as Tony in the youth telenovela Niní, starring Florencia Bertotti. He later had leading roles in the RCN series Rigo, Telemundo’s Sin senos sí hay paraíso (Without Breasts, There Is Paradise) and El final del paraíso (The End of Paradise), as well as Caracol Televisión’s Las hermanitas Calle (The Calle Sisters) and Sobreviviendo a Escobar - Alias JJ (Surviving Escobar - Alias JJ).
In theater, Urrego performed in La cantante calva (The Bald Soprano), La Revolución (The Revolution), Niní: La búsqueda (Niní: The Search), and Lucas sin nariz (Lucas Without a Nose) while in Argentina. In Colombia, his stage credits include Los autores materiales (The Material Authors), Morir de amor (Dying of Love), El bolero de Rubén (Rubén's Bolero), and Un tranvía llamado deseo (A Streetcar Named Desire).
