His first feature Blood and Rain (2009) was nominated for the Lion of the Future at the 66th Venice Film Festival and was in official competition at numerous festivals such as Tribeca, Tesaloniki, Mannheim, Biarritz and Friborg, among others. His short film Alguien mató algo (2000) had an important international recognition and won awards at festivals such as Clermont-Ferrand. His experimental work Calicalabozo (1997) is a reference for the Colombian underground.
In 2018 his film We Are Heat premieres in the official competition of Warsaw Film Festival. His documentary feature-length film Balada para niños muertos will premiere in 2021.

Sus películas se han estrenado y han sido premiadas en festivales como Venecia, Tribeca, Varsovia, Tesalonika, Palm Springs, Clermont-Ferrand, Mannheim, Sao Paulo, Guadalajara, Cartagena. Sus comerciales y videoclips también han sido premiados nacional e internacionalmente.
En 2019 estrenó comercialmente en Estados Unidos Somos calentura y en el mismo año el Festival de Cine Colombiano de Berlín hizo una retrospectiva de su trabajo.
Ha sido jurado y seleccionador en festivales internacionales de cine, profesor universitario, conferencista y DJ. En 2021 estrenará el largometraje documental Balada para niños muertos.
