Synopsis

Camilo Arroyo Arboleda has been a schoolteacher, sailor, taxidermist, butterfly collector, hunter, fur trafficker, dog psychiatrist, gold miner, tree sawyer, dentist, blacksmith, pharmacist, and for a while, even the white monster in the eyes of black children. Destined for success and glory, he was seduced by the backwoods and ended up living amid the Afro communities of the Colombian Pacific coast, a region plagued by violence and poverty. He isn’t easily labeled: he is neither colonist,nor good Samaritan; neither philosopher exalting the “Noble Savage”, nor anthropologist studying Afro communities; neither lunatic nor maladjusted hippie. Don Ca is the portrait ofa free, disobedient man, who thinks outside the box and travels off the beaten path. His amazing stories will invite us to delve into subject of personal freedom—a freedom still denied to Afro-Colombian communities by violence and poverty, as well as the illusory freedom promoted by a nation subservient to political and economic powers.
