Synopsis
Bogotá. The armed conflict has worsened to such a point that the capital of Colombia has become a war zone. Life is now lived under a state of emergency resulting from continuous attacks and bombings that have destroyed the Cathedral and a large part of the city´s downtown. Young men are being drafted into the army on a daily basis to defend the country. It's within this context that Ana lives out her particular story. The daughter of a university professor who was a former guerrilla, her only brother runs away to the United States when he's drafted. Something similar happens when her boyfriend Flavio is forced to exchange his camera for a rifle. Ana doesn´t understand why her world, that of a well-to-do Bogotá family, preoccupied with parties, concerts and going to college, is being forced to get involved in a conflict they feel they are not responsible for. Narrated through animation with video game-style sets and characters, Desterrada describes the unusual and particular perspective of a portion of Bogotá's youth about an armed conflict that they were born into, that they don´t understand and haven't experienced firsthand; but one which, one way or the other, has changed their lives and their vision of their country. A novel and peculiar perspective of the armed conflict told as an animated film.
