Synopsis

The film Mambo cool is a delirium, but a poetic one despite its setting amidst a decaying underworld of marijuana, cocaine and crack and asphyxiating, closed off environments. The conversations run one into another, start and re-start, repeat themselves, mingling with  “incoherent coherences” and truly human characters who appear and disappear and whose relationships become the film's central focus. As if in a dream, the camera narrows, goes blank, searching for unpredictable angles and the zenith … As if in a dream those who speak are invisible to the camera but then appear, or don't …. Their conversations about various drugs,  their aches and pains, money, worries, and real or imaginary friends take us through the film's one hour surrounded by poetic imagery. This is, without a doubt, a rare and incredibly original movie where we are left with the sensation that time has passed but that nothing has happened. A disconcertingly beautiful piece which demonstrates a different twist to movie-making.
