Synopsis
Benkos Biohó, the man who never dies, the founder of San Basilio de Palenque and hero of this town whose roots are in Africa, reincarnated in every generation of palenqueros hoping to fulfill a dream that has become collective: get back to Africa. A donde van las almas (To where the souls go) is a short documentary of Diana Kuellar that starts from the belief of the habitants of San Baisilio of Palenque, that after death their souls return to Africa, paradise. The Lumbalú is the name of the ritual of buring their dead, with drumming and delicate dance of women around the body of the deceased, the palenqueros help the souls of their relatives to find the right path after death. The longing for this country so far but so remembered through oral tradition, is the heart of this story told to the sound of drums.
