Nicolás Montero

Nicolás Montero was born in Bogota on February 10, 1966. He has been widely acclaimed for his exceptional performances in theater, film, and telenovelas. He studied anthropology at the Universidad de los Andes and began acting with a theater group in 1985. His first TV performance was in Momposina (1993), which brought him a nomination for the India Catalina Award for Best Supporting Actor.
 
His television career continued with Dulce ave negra (1993); Amor, amor (1994); Sueños y espejos (1995), which won him a nomination for an India Catalina Award and for the TV and Telenovelas Award in the Best Lead Actor category; Hombres (1996), for which he won an India Catalina for Best Supporting Actor; La madre (1998); El Fiscal (1999), which brought him a nomination for Best Lead Actor at the India Catalina awards and the TV and Telenovelas awards; Brujeres (2000); El informante en el país de las mercancías (2001), with which he was nominated for the TV and Telenovelas Award for Best Lead Actor; La costeña y el cachaco (2003); Amor a la plancha (2003); the Venezuelan show Amor del bueno (2004); La viuda de la mafia (2004), for which he was nominated for the TV and Telenovelas Award for Best Supporting Actor; La hija del mariachi (2006); Tiempo final: Mano a mano (2007); Novia para dos (2008); Operación Jaque (2010); Un Sueño Llamado Salsa (2010); Amar y temer (2011), which won him a nomination for an India Catalina Award and a TV and Telenovelas Award for best villain in a telenovela, series, or miniseries; Pablo Escobar, The Drug Lord (2012), for which he was once again nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Series at the India Catalina, and for which he won a TV and Telenovelas Award; La Hipocondríaca (2013); La selección, la serie (2013); Tiro de gracia (2015); Esmeraldas (2015); and La ley del corazón (2016).
 
Montero has had roles in the Colombian feature films Los actores del conflicto (The Actors in the Conflict); Colombianos, un acto de fe; Diástole y sístole: Los movimientos del corazón; and Time Out. He has also acted in the stage plays The Gronholm Method, Ubu Rey, Sin límites, De cómo Kacha aprendió el arte de la resurrección, and La comedia de las equivocaciones. Currently, his comedy El Nombre, in which he co-stars, is playing at the Teatro Nacional.
 
Montero is also a theater director, and has directed the plays Black Bird; Closer, llevados por el deseo (2008); Cita a ciegas (2007); Tierra de diversiones (2005); Con el corazón abierto (2002); and Oleanna (1999). He has won two ACPE Awards for Best Actor–one for Sueños y espejos in 1996, and one for Hombres in 1997. And at the Cartagena International Film Festival (FICCI), he was awarded Best Actor for Diástole y sístole: Los movimientos del corazón.
