25th Black Movie - International Independent Film Festival
January 19 to 28 - 2024 / Ginebra (Suiza)
Description
Black Movie - International Independent Film FestivalCommitted to the defense of Asian, African, Middle Eastern and South American cinema, the Black Movie Festival offered moviegoers in Geneva and French-speaking Switzerland the opportunity to discover for the first time the films of Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Jia Zhangke, Carlos Reygadas, Wang Bing, Hong Sangsoo, Takashi Miike, Tsai Ming-Liang and João Pedro Rodrigues. Most of these directors, winners of awards at the world's most prestigious film festivals (Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Busan, Toronto, Rotterdam, etc.), were present during the screening of their films at Black Movie.
Classified in thematic sections (society, politics, new urban culture, genre, etc.), the films screened during this annual 10-day festival testify to the vitality of an international cinematography completely ignored by the commercial distribution circuits and barely visible in Switzerland. Here, audiences will find films of all formats: fiction, documentary, experimental, animation, feature and short films. A bold and specific programming encourages minority voices, openness, cinematic quality and impertinence. As for the competitive aspect of the festival, a jury of international critics awards a City of Geneva prize for the best work of the year.
Black Movie can boast of its global reach, as confirmed by the annual arrival of some twenty guest filmmakers from all continents and the presence and coverage of numerous foreign correspondents.
