The Popayan Short Film Festival was founded in 2009 with the primary goal of opening new spaces for Colombian short film. Short film production has grown rapidly in Colombia in recent years thanks to increased access to equipment and technology, incentive awards from the Ministry of Culture and the Film Development Fund, and a general flourishing of film production in the country. With this boom in production, it is essential to open new screens so that short films can be viewed and complete their production cycle, ensuring that they are not only seen at international festivals, but also on the Colombian festival circuit.
