MUICA 2015

May 06 to 31 - 2015 / Cartagena, Bogotá, Cali

Description

The MUICA (Muestra Itinerante de Cine Africano) is a biennial event that showcases African and Afro-diasporic films to audiences in various cities across Colombia. The festival aims to highlight and promote the creative versatility of African and Afro-descendant artists. MUICA plays a crucial role in cultivating audiences and shaping perceptions about the African continent, addressing the gaps left by educational institutions, dominant cultural initiatives, and the media. These gaps often contribute to institutionalized behaviors of marginalization, discrimination, and inequality.

The festival occurs in May, coinciding with African heritage month in Colombia. It is hosted in diverse venues, including alternative movie theaters, cultural centers, universities, schools, and neighborhoods. The festival primarily takes place in three main cities: Cartagena, Cali, and Bogota, with additional locations featured in each edition, such as Providencia, Buenaventura, and San Basilio de Palenque, among others.
