Nacer, diario de maternidad by Colombian director Jorge Caballero took part in the International Feature Competition at the 18th Visions du Réel Film Festival in the city of Nyon, Switzerland from April 20-27, 2012. The film was the only Colombian entry in this year’s festival.

The Colombian feature Señoritas by Lina Rodríguez, produced by Rodríguez and John Bradley Deane, won the Sinsistema Award at the 9th Buenos Aires Lab (BAL) held April 12-15 at the 14th BAFICI (Buenos Aires Independent Film Festival). The project took part in the Work in Progress (WIP) section of the BAL, which featured a screening of the 8-minute excerpt of the project filmed in November 2011 in Bogotá.

The 8th Latin American Film Festival (LAFF) in Utrecht, Holland took place from April 18-27 this year and featured a new and powerful Colombian presence thanks to this year’s focus on Colombia and its new generation of filmmakers using moving images to create a different view of real-life Colombia, going beyond violence and drug trafficking to focus on subtle stories about the daily lives of average Colombians.

The 27th Guadalajara International Film Festival wrapped on March 10 with an award ceremony held in the Mexican city of the same name to mark the end of the festival that began on March 2. Four Colombian productions were awarded Best Screenplay, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Short Ibero-American Film and an Honorable Mention.
