FDC Grant-Winner and Co-production “La playa” Finishes Shooting

During the month of May, director Juan Andres Arango’s feature film La playa – winner of Colombia’s Film Development Fund grant for Feature Production in 2008 and co-produced with Brazil and France – was shot at approximately 35 locations around Bogotá. The film includes original music by Latin Grammy winner and Grammy nominees ChocQuibTown.

Colombian Documentary Filmmaker Juan Zapata Shoots Feature-Length Fiction

On May 23, in Porto Alegre, Brazil, Colombian documentary filmmaker Juan Zapata began shooting his first feature-length fiction film Simone. Shooting is scheduled to last three weeks and a series of multi-platform sub-products are slated for release during the production process including an internet series in June, a documentary about the making of the film produced by Spain’s Backstage, a book, a production diary and a diary kept by the main character in the film.

Colombian Project Receives Aid from Hubert Bals Fund at Rotterdam Festival

El abrazo de la serpiente, the film project by Colombian director Ciro Guerra (Los viajes del viento) is one of 22 projects to receive financial aid from the Hubert Bals Rund at the Rotterdam Film Festival. These awards support screenplay development, digital production, post-production, distribution and participation in professional workshops. This year, eight Latin American projects were selected.

Colombian Short Film in Official Selection and Eight Shorts in Short Film Corner at Cannes Festival

Soy tan feliz (Argentina/Colombia) by Colombian director Vladimir Duran will be participating in the 64th Cannes Film Festival’s Official Short Film Selection. The short was produced in Argentina and won Best Short at the 13th Buenos Aires International Independent Film Festival (BAFICI), which closed on April 17th. Another eight Colombian short films will also be present at Cannes in the Short Film Corner.
