This thriller is inspired by the events that shook the nation on May 30, 1973, when the Sociedad Aeronáutica de Medellín plane, HK-1274, embarked on a routine trip with stops in Cali and Pereira, carrying a total of 84 passengers. According to most news reports at the time, two men were sitting in the second-to-last row of the plane. Suddenly, one of them brandished a firearm, announcing to the passengers a new reality: they were being hijacked. It all happened quickly, with a shot fired into the air. The hijackers then made their way to the cockpit, where they confronted the pilot, Jorge Lucena, threatening him with the gun and ordering him to fly to Aruba, as detailed by Massimo Di Ricco in his book Los condenados del Aire. El viaje a la utopia de los aeropiratas del Caribe (The damned of the air. The journey to utopia of the Caribbean air pirates, 2020).
Secuestro del Vuelo 601 has been approved to receive the CINA incentive (Audiovisual Investment Certificate), approved by the Colombian government and managed by Proimágenes Colombia. This incentive offers a tax rebate equal to 35% of the expenses incurred for audiovisual services in the country. The entire series was shot in Bogotá and Cali.
