Pantalla Colombia No.: 133julio 01 - 31 / 2024
ProColombia and the Colombian Film Commission met with the Film Commissions of Seoul and South Korea to discuss Colombia's potential as a destination for audiovisual production. Korean companies have shown interest in expanding their projects in Colombia due to the impact that Korean content has had in the country.
A five-day strategic meeting was held in Seoul in a joint effort organized by ProColombia, the Film Commissions of Seoul and South Korea, the Guild, and the Association of Korean Production Companies. This event, which brought together key representatives from the Colombian Film Commission and the Korean audiovisual sector, brought together writers, producers, creators, television and film experts, digital content professionals, and distributors, covering the entire audiovisual production chain.
The participating Korean companies, known for their global influence and extensive experience in international productions, especially in Asia, showed great interest in exploring new locations in Latin America and expanding their presence in the region. During the meetings, they discussed in detail the competitive advantages and potential Colombia offers as an attractive destination for audiovisual production.
The growing impact of Korean content in Colombia was a key point of discussion, with a clear opportunity to expand on this success if productions were carried out directly in Colombia. Korean producers recognized that Colombia represents a great opportunity to expand their projects, thanks to the generous economic incentives offered by the country.
Representatives of the Korean audiovisual sector were unanimous in their positive assessment of the Colombian incentive system. They emphasized that it is well organized and that the country's audiovisual infrastructure is robust and capable of supporting high-quality productions. Despite the geographical distance, the advantages offered by Colombia, such as its diverse locations and the value of the incentives, far outweigh this challenge.
ProColombia played a critical role in this process, providing ongoing support and facilitating the necessary connections for these companies to explore the opportunities Colombia offers first-hand. This collaborative effort demonstrates the commitment of ProColombia and the Colombia Film Commission to position the country as a leading destination for international audiovisual production.
At the conclusion of this productive meeting in Seoul, participants acknowledge that further action is needed to bridge the gap between the two nations. The future holds great potential for developing joint projects that will increase the impact of Korean productions in Colombia and promote Colombia as a strategic hub for future international productions. This collaboration paves the way for cultural and economic exchange to benefit both countries and foster a solid and lasting relationship in the audiovisual field.
