Pantalla Colombia No.: 133julio 01 - 31 / 2024
The documentary Hermanos por accidente (Brothers by Accident), about the case of twins swapped at birth, reached fourth place in Netflix's non-English language ranking worldwide. Meanwhile, the second season of La primera vez (The First Time) arrived on the platform on July 10.
On June 20, Hermanos por accidente, directed by Alessandro Angulo and produced by Laberinto, was released on Netflix. The team included Elba Mcallister and Diana Camargo Buriticá as executive producers and Juan Guillermo Mercado and Diana Dudek as associate producers. Diego Chalela co-wrote the script with Alessandro Angulo; Alfredo Ruiz and Carlos Hernández were the cinematographers; Ivan Hartmann was the art director; Alejandro Reyes and Lorenzo Caballero were the music directors; and Carlos Trujillo was the sound director. Sonata Films did the sound post-production, María Clara García and Esteban Muñoz were the editors, and Cristina Sepúlveda designed the costumes.
The documentary focuses on brothers Carlos and Jorge Bernal and William and Wilber Cañas. At the age of 25, these pairs discovered that they had been switched at birth and faced the shock of learning that the person they thought was their twin was not. Colombia learned of the case in 2016, and now Netflix has brought it to the world.
What if someone told you that the life you've been living actually belonged to someone else? How would you feel if you suddenly discovered that your identity and everything that defines it is not exclusively yours? Twenty-five years ago, at the Maternal and Child Clinic in Bogotá, a newborn was accidentally switched with one of two twins born on the same day. In 2013, the lives of twin brothers Jorge and Carlos Bernal and William and Wilber Cañas crossed and changed forever.
After its release, Hermanos por accidente became a hit on the streaming platform and was among the top 10 non-English films worldwide. It topped the charts in countries like Uruguay, Sweden, Spain, and Norway. From June 23 to June 30, it racked up 2,800,000 hours of viewing in its first week.
The second season of La primera vez, consisting of ten episodes, was released on Netflix on July 10. The cast includes Francisca Estévez, Emmanuel Restrepo, Sara Pinzón, Verónica Orozco, Santiago Alarcón, Sergio Palau, Julián Cerati, Brandon Figueredo, Mateo García, Adriana Arango, María Cecilia Botero, Carla Giraldo, and Alejandro Santamaría.
This Caracol Televisión production was created and written by Dago García, with María Gamboa and Mateo Stivelberg as directors. In the second season of La primera vez, a surprise phone call from Luisa announcing her pregnancy turns Granados' world upside down. Overwhelmed by the prospect of unexpected fatherhood, clumsy Romeo realizes that his own mistakes threaten his future with the woman he loves. Amid these emotional struggles and family pressures, new challenges arise as they navigate an unforgettable senior year in 1977.
The series's first season premiered on Netflix in 2023, with 13 episodes of 42 minutes each. It was also directed by Mateo Stivelberg and María Gamboa. Now, the story returns to entertain audiences in Colombia and more than 190 countries where it is available on Netflix.
