From October 3 to 13, 2024, Barcelona (Spain) will host the 57th edition of Catalonia's prestigious Sitges - International Fantastic Film Festival. This event has become a must for film lovers and fans of horror and fantasy. Attendees will be able to explore the latest technological trends shaping genre cinema.

After its world premiere at ACID Cannes, a parallel section of the Cannes Film Festival, Mi bestia by Camila Beltrán will compete in the Noves Visions category. This section highlights films experimenting with new languages, formats, and genre crossovers. Mi bestia, Beltrán's debut feature, received several awards and recognitions during its project phase, including the Moulin d'Andé Writing Residency (France, 2018), the Brittany International Co-Development Fund (UK, 2019), the Normandy Region Writing Fund (France, 2019), the ARTE Kino Award - San Sebastian Festival Co-Production Forum (Spain, 2020), Cannes Focus Copro (France, 2021), and the French Fund Aide Aux Cinémas du Monde - CNC Post-Production Award (France, 2023). The film was supported by Fondo para el Desarrollo Cinematográfico - FDC in the Feature Fiction Production category (2019) and was produced by Felina Films (Colombia) and Films Grand Huit (France), in co-production with Inercia Películas (Colombia) and Ganas Producciones (Colombia).

The movie takes place in Bogotá in 1996. During a period of frequent blackouts, a rumor begins to spread. It is said that the devil will arrive during the upcoming solar eclipse and bring about the apocalypse. Thirteen-year-old Mila takes the prophecy very seriously. As she struggles with the changes of puberty and is overwhelmed by fear and superstition, she begins to interpret everything as a sign. As the day of the eclipse approaches, Mila feels cursed. Is she the curse predicted?

Colombia is also represented in the industry selections FanPitch and Coming Soon, part of the Sitges FanLab. In FanPitch, a platform dedicated to supporting the development of fantastic cinema on a national and international level, the project Otro jardín by Mariana Gil Ríos, produced by Movimiento Cine, is participating. This project was selected during the International Producers Meeting in Colombia.

In the Coming Soon section, which highlights horror, science fiction, and fantasy works in various formats - be they features, shorts, series, miniseries, or documentaries - that are either nearing completion or have already been completed but are seeking financial support, distribution or promotion for broader distribution, Simbiontes by director Christian Mejía Carrascal will be featured. Produced by Oveja Eléctrica in co-production with the Spanish company DarkStudios, the film is a recipient of the FDC in the Short Film Production: Regional Stories (2022) category. The arrival of a new symbiote child lights up a mysterious rocky mountain. Following the light, Elena and the soldier Luzon arrive. For Elena, a troubled pilgrim, these beings represent salvation; for Luzon, a mercenary, they are a threat to be eliminated. Elena devoutly cares for the symbiote girl until Luzon appears. The girl then traps them in a chrysalis that sends them to her purgatory, from which they emerge transformed into a single being: a symbiote child.

Natalia Hermida's Llueve sobre Babel, produced by Andrés Hermida of Gala del Sol Films, is also presented in the same section. Dante's contract with La Flaca, Death personified, ends today, and as he begins to remember who he was before he died, he helps a ghost named Monet return to his body before it decomposes. Meanwhile, to save his father's life, Timbi travels through the circles of hell with Uma, a gypsy woman who wants to make a deal with La Flaca. The stakes? The life of his dying daughter. Against this diverse backdrop, the characters' lives converge in the mythical Babel Bar, the night where the living and the dead collide.
