Alberto Valdiri

Actor Alberto Valdiri, from the Caribbean coast city of Barranquilla, died at the age of 55 after a multifaceted career spanning nearly 30 years, in which he performed in many of Colombia’s most famous TV series, telenovelas, movies, and stage plays.
 
After completing high school at the Lycée Français in Bogota, Valdiri began his acting career in 1980 at the Teatro El Local, where he remained until 2009. There, he was able to act in stage plays such as Innocent Eréndira (1980-1985), Los caballitos rebeldes (1981), Blood Wedding(1985), Electra (1986), El adefesio (1987), La siempreviva (1995-2012), En carne propia (2000-2001), El ángel de la gasolinera (2004), and Las burguesas de la calle menor. He performed in Tartufo (1988) with the Teatro Santa Fe; Enséñame a vivir (2001-2002) with the Teatro Nacional; Cabaret literario y lecturas dramáticas (2007), directed by Rolph and Heidi Alberhalden, with the group Mapa Teatro; A la sombra del volcán (2007), directed by Alejandra Borrero; and Trainspotting (2009), directed by Mario Duarte with the Teatro Libre.
 
He also studied law at the Universidad Externado de Colombia (1978-1982) and journalism at the Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano (1982-1985), as well as numerous acting workshops with Colombian and international coaches.
 
In 1984, he had his television debut with the telenovela Amándote, by Punch Televisión. He has also acted in the features El alma de maíz (1995), by Patricia Restrepo; La gente honrada(2005), by French director Bob Decout; El trato, by Francisco Norden (2005); Looking for Miguel (2007), by Juan Fischer; Bituima (1995); The First Night (2003); Gabriel’s Passion (2008), directed by Luis Alberto Restrepo; Nochebuena (2008), by Camila Loboguerrero; and Roa, by Andrés Baiz (2013).
 
He was also a jury member on the reality show Protagonistas de novela 3 in 2004, and hosted the awards ceremony of the Bogota Short Film Festival (BOGOSHORTS) in 2005 and 2006.
