After an important journey for several festivals, the sixth feature film by Ruben Mendoza, Niña errante (Wandering Girl), premiered on the HBO platforms on February 21, 2020.
HBO, one of the United States’ most important subscription channels, has announced the series and films that will be available during 2020 on both the TV channel and digital platforms. The Colombian production Niña errante, translated as Wandering Girl, in included in such programming.
Described by Hollywood Reporter as a "lyrical drama about becoming adult ", Niña errante, a film that premiered at national level on April 4, 2019, tells the story of Angela, a 12 year old girl who meets her three older stepsisters for the first time after her father dies, embarking on a road trip in search of her new home. Niña errante is starred by Sofia Paz, Carolina Ramirez, Lina Marcela Sanchez and Maria Camila Mejia.
Winner of the Golden Wolf as Best Film and Best Music at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival – PÖFF, and the UN Unite Award awarded at the Havana International Festival of New Latin American Cinema, Niña errante arrives to HBO after a significant journey for several festivals throughout 2019.
After being the inaugural film at the 59th edition of the Cartagena de Indias International Film Festival – FICCI, Niña errante participated in other festivals, such as the 65th San Sebastian Film Festival (Cinema under Construction), New York Colombian Film Festival (COLFILMNY), Rencontres de Toulouse 31, among others, receiving important recognition, such as the Best Fiction Film Award at the 7th New York Colombian Film Festival, the Silver Biznaga Award for Best Supporting Actress (Carolina Ramirez) at the 22nd Malaga Festival, and the 15th Zurich Film Festival, where it was part of the program dedicated to Colombia: New World View: Colombia.
It is worth mentioning that Niña errante competed for the HBO Ibero-American Feature Film Award at the Miami Film Festival.
