Embrace of the Serpent, First Colombian Film Nominated for an Oscar

On January 14, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed the official nominations for the Oscars. In a historic moment for Colombian cinema, Ciro Guerra’s Embrace of the Serpent was announced as one of the five productions nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. This marks the first time a Colombian production has made it into this group of nominees, from which the winner will be chosen on February 28. In Colombia, some 24 movie theaters put Embrace back on their screens following the announcement
